Phu Ang Rung Hiking
By hiking to “Phu Ang Rung” for an hour walking up hill, you will be able to see the panorama views of Dansai valley. Along the path, you will walk through the bamboo forest and will see  the local plants such as wild mushrooms and other local vegetables. After 40 minutes walk, you will reach “Nong Kong” where the wild animals come to drink water and here you can take a rest for a while before walking towards the top of Phu Ang Rung. On the top of the hill, the Dansai valley view is just right in front of you.  It’s very beautiful and worth taking a photo.

Rice Cultivation                                                                                                                                                        Join the farmers’ activities in their paddy fields in Dansai valley. The methods of growing differ greatly in different localities. The fields are prepared by plowing (typically with simple plows drawn by water buffalo), fertilizing (usually with dung or sewage), and smoothing (by dragging a log over them). The seedlings are started in seedling beds and, after 30 to 50 days, are transplanted by hand to the fields, which have been flooded by rain or river water. During the growing season, irrigation is maintained by dike-controlled canals or by hand watering. The fields are allowed to drain before cutting. Rice when it is still covered by the brown hull is known as paddy, rice fields are also called paddy fields or rice paddies. Before marketing, the rice is threshed to loosen the hulls mainly by flailing, treading, or working in a mortar and winnowed free of chaff by tossing it in the air above a sheet or mat. After joining the farmers for some seasonal activities, it will make you understand how the farmers grow their rice.

Mountain Bike Dansai City Tour
A chance to explore the nature and culture in Dansai village in a healthy way by mountained bike. Start with the morning ride to visit Ho Noi, an important place where the holy ceremonies are taken placed by “Chao Por Guan”.  Then ride pass Phra That Sri Song Rak to go along the village road to visit a home stay village of Ban Na Thum, where the villagers mainly grow bamboo. After that visit Wat Sri Sa-Ard at Ban Nam Thaeng. Continue to Ban Nong Fah Lab to view and learn how the north-eastern farmers work in their rice fields. It is more beautiful to see these villages during the rainy season. Next visit is Wat Pho Sri at Ban Na Viang, one of the old local temples which was built during the town was settled. And then, ride along the Man River to reach Dansai down town. Last visit for the bike tour is an interesting Phi Ta Khon Local Museum where one can learn how the local mask is made.

Learn to Harvest Local Sweet Corn (Khao Pod Tak Ngai)
A unique sweet corn growing only in Dansai hills, Loei. The best time to harvest corn is known as the “milk stage” when the ears are fully formed but not yet ripe. This stage usually lasts about a week. You can determine when the corn is ready to harvest by looking at the silks, husks, and kernels. The silks should be old green but a little bit brown, which occurs about 3 weeks after the silks first appear. Their husks should hold tightly to the ear and the kernels should produce a little milky fluid when pierced. How to make it ready to eat? Just boiled it and add some salt. The taste is sweet and very delicious.

Especially at Ban Nathum and Ban Namtheang, the two villages where are the best places to grow sweet bamboo because of their good quality of soil and nutrition. Sunrise and Sunset Watching                                                                                                                               Indulge yourself with a beautiful sunrise watching at Phu Pha Dad or Phu Kwaen Thung at Ban Na Hor in Dansai district. On the top of the hill, you will be able to see the panorama views of Dansai valley. By walking up hill for about 1 hour or take a local vehicle called “E-Tak”  using in the agriculture of local people for 30-40 minutes, you will reach to the top of Phu Pha Dad. First thing you will see is the area where the villagers took “Thung” (kind of long piece of colorful cloth or thread used for merit making or used in other local ceremonies) to hang on the trees in order to pay respect to the mountain spirits. In the evening, go to Phu Rue for sunset watching. To reach the top of Phu Rue National Park at its 1,365 meters above sea level is easy by the vehicles since there is the good road access there. But still, you need to walk in each trail to see the beautiful scenic areas in different angles.

Phi Ta Khon Mask Making                                                                                                                                         Learn how to make Phi Ta Khon Mask at the local Phi Ta Khon Museum. The Phi Ta Khon mask is a unique traditional folk craft of Dan Sai district. Although subject to the maker's imagination and creative interpretation, each mask adheres to the traditional Phi Ta Khon style. The Phi Ta Khon mask consists of three major components: the hat, the face and the nose. The hat is made from a traditional bamboo container used for steaming glutinous (sticky) rice known as huad. The huad is folded up like a hat so it fits on the head. The face element of the mask is made from a coconut leaf sheath with small openings cut for the eyes. The nose is made from soft wood. In the past, the nose was relatively simple. However over the years, it has evolved and features elaborate shapes and details. Occasionally two horns made from dried coconut lobes are also added to the mask. The various elements are assembled together with the use of strings and nails. The mask is then painted in elaborate designs and striking colors. To complete each mask, narrow shoulder-length strips of cloth are sewn together and glued to the back of the mask. The Phi Ta Khon Mask is the one of world renowned local festival of Thailand.
